On 15 June 2026, PRIMAS President, YBhg. Dato’ J. Govindasamy @ Suresh, and Deputy President, Mr. C. Krishnan, met with YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, Minister of Human Resources, as well as the Honourable Prime Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, to discuss matters relating to the foreign worker issue affecting the restaurant industry. Also in attendance were PRESMA President, Datuk Mohammed Mosin Abdul Razak, and Vice President, Tuan Razali Yusof.YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan informed PRIMAS that the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) is actively engaged in discussions with the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) to address the matter as soon as possible. He emphasised that both ministries are working diligently and are currently examining the relevant issues and potential solutions.Following the submission of the memorandum by PRIMAS to the Prime Minister during the AIMST programme in Sungai Petani, Kedah, the matter was subsequently brought to the attention of the Cabinet. The Prime Minister has instructed the relevant ministries involved in the formulation and implementation of foreign worker policies, including KDN, KPDN and KESUMA, to study the matter comprehensively.The ministries are currently gathering relevant data and assessing the actual workforce requirements of the industry, while also reviewing the current status of foreign workers in the country.During today’s meeting with the Prime Minister, PRIMAS once again took the opportunity to appeal and highlight the serious challenges faced by the restaurant industry, particularly in relation to the foreign worker issue and the difficulties currently faced by operators nationwide.The Prime Minister reiterated and reassured both associations that the matter is being studied based on his instructions and that the Government remains committed to resolving the issue as soon as possible. He further assured that the concerns of the business community are being taken seriously and that the Government will continue working towards a practical and sustainable solution.Members are advised to remain assured that the issue is being actively addressed by the Government, which is fully aware of the challenges faced by the industry and is working towards an appropriate resolution. PRIMAS will continue to engage with the relevant authorities and keep members informed of any further developments.

As part of its ongoing efforts to build momentum and secure support from various ministries and departments, PRIMAS has been actively engaging relevant ministries and departments to advocate for its appeal to the Government regarding the urgent need for foreign workers in the Indian restaurant industry.On 8 June 2026, PRIMAS Deputy President, Mr. C. Krishnan, Hon. Secretary, Mr. N. Shanmugam, together with PRIMAS member, Madam Gurdip Kaur, attended a meeting with the Minister of Digital, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo. The meeting was held at 2:30 PM at MoF Inc. Tower, Platinum Park.During the meeting, PRIMAS submitted a letter and memorandum seeking the Minister's assistance in addressing the foreign worker issues currently affecting the Indian restaurant industry. YB Minister received and acknowledged the concerns raised by PRIMAS positively and informed the delegation that he would raise the matter in Cabinet, as pledged during the discussion.Following the meeting, and in line with his commitment to follow through on the matter, YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo brought the issue directly to the attention of the Minister of Home Affairs, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail, during a formal engagement with the Ministry the very next day.In that discussion, Tuan Gobind Singh Deo highlighted the challenges faced by the industry and the urgency of the situation. Sathianarayanan attended the Briefing on the Post-Maternity Leave Allowance (EPCB), which commenced at 10:00 a.m. at the Zenith Grand Ballroom, Zenith Hotel Putrajaya.The briefing provided industry representatives with a comprehensive overview of the newly introduced EPCB initiative, including its objectives, implementation framework and expected benefits. The EPCB is an initiative providing eligible women employees with additional paid leave of up to 30 days after the completion of 98 days of maternity leave. The benefit, proposed under the Employment Insurance System Act 2017 through amendments to the Act, is to be paid at a rate of 80 per cent of the insured woman’s assumed monthly wage and will be disbursed as a lump-sum payment.Participants were also introduced to the Labour Market Exchange (LMX) portal under MYFutureJobs, a platform that provides labour market data, employment trends, workforce insights and job market statistics. The portal offers users access to real-time labour market information, analytical tools and advanced search functions to support informed workforce planning and decision-making.PRIMAS’ participation reflects its continued commitment to staying informed of policy developments and actively engaging with initiatives introduced by the Government.

PRIMAS President YBhg. Dato’ J. Govindasamy @ Suresh, Deputy President Mr. C. Krishnan, Vice President Dr. A. Sinnaiah @ Seenu, and PRIMAS member Ms. M. Amutha Devi met with YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan immediately after he took the oath of office as Minister of Human Resources (KSM) to convey congratulations and honour him with a garland.The PRIMAS delegation spent approximately 30–45 minutes in a discussion over coffee with YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, during which key issues affecting the restaurant sector were highlighted. Among the matters discussed were Akta 60K and Akta 446, with a request for these regulations to be reviewed or for appropriate leniency to be considered, as well as foreign worker related issues, including the need to open new quotas for the approval of foreign workers. YB Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan expressed his understanding of the concerns raised and strongly assured that the issues would be solved.YB Kumaresan and YB Senator Dr. Lingeshwaran also expressed their support and assured PRIMAS that the issues raised would be given due attention.

PRIMAS Committee Members Dato’ Seri N.Ramanathan and Mr. S.Siva Rao, together with PRIMAS Member Mr. M.Kathiresan, attended the “Mesyuarat Libat Urus Bersama Pihak Berkepentingan Berkaitan Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)” organized by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Penang.The session, chaired by Tuan Mohd Suffian bin Mohd Abass, “Ketua Pegawai Penguat Kuasa Negeri” of KPDN Penang, focused on proposed amendments to Regulation 18 of the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Regulations 2021, aimed at strengthening policy and regulatory oversight of LPG.PRIMAS shared constructive views and suggestions on the use of LPG within the restaurant industry, emphasizing the need for practical and sustainable regulations that support business operations while ensuring safety and compliance.
