Ban on Smoking and Cleanliness of Restaurant Premises
On 23-01-2024, Committee Members, Messrs K. Shaker and Previn Kumar attended the Briefing related to the enforcement of Ban on Smoking and cleanliness of restaurant premises, organized by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia in Putrajaya @ 3.30 p.m.
Discussion was held on the owner or occupier of any No smoking Area or place declared under section 16, must display a Smoking Ban warning sign in the prescribed form, must not provide any smoking equipment or facilities or any means intended to encourage any person to smoke.
Shall take all reasonable steps as determined by the Director General to prevent any person from smoking in the restaurant premises.
More than three years have passed since smoking was banned at all eateries across the country, yet many still act in flagrant disregard of the law.
With compound notices issued for the offence nationwide last year, questions are being asked about the effectiveness of the ban. Both eatery owners and patrons must change their attitudes so the purpose of the law can be achieved.
“No number of new policies will make a difference if smokers continue to not care (about) the effect their smoking has on others, while non-smokers and businesses remain silent (with) those who ignore the ban.
However, all the 7 respective Association presence unanimously requested KKM not to impose any penalties towards the eateries’ owner.
