PROGRAM ON WORLD ANTI HUMAN TRAFFICKING DAY

PRIMAS Deputy President, Mr, C. Krishnan attended 2 two-day program in conjunction with world anti Human Trafficking Day, organized by the Institute Keselamatan Awam Malaysia under KDN, in Dorsett Hotel in Putrajaya.

The main objective of the program was to eradicate or reduce human trafficking and enforced labours in Malaysia. The Government is doing all they could to “convince” International Labour & Welfare Organisations, countries like USA and EU that Malaysia is sincere on the mission. Malaysia has promoted from 3rd tier to 2nd tier on human trafficking offences. Benchmark to go higher level (better), as the number of cases charged & convicted in within the 12 months. Thus, government will charge anyone if proofed guilty. The government has an interest in recovering status of the county.

Stakeholders like restaurant industry, need to be more sensitive and cautious on these issues, and to see the seriousness of the matter.

The Government is doing its best to prove to ILO and other international Labour watchdogs efforts taken to reduce human trafficking. They have come out with awareness booklets for FW regarding their rights, it will be available online as well soon. Managing foreign workers has to be looked in to a new approach otherwise anyone can be affected or abused neither employer or employee.
