Malaysian Indian restaurant owners expressed their anguish as they were unable to even serve food to customers due to the lack of foreign workers to work in their restaurants.
Datuk Govindaswamy, president of the Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners Association (PRIMAS), said the situation is getting worse by the day.
There are thousands of Indian restaurants operating throughout Malaysia. As the president of Primas, which represents these restaurants, I express our regret and dissatisfaction. The shortage of foreign workers severely affects service quality, health, and operational capabilities.
Many restaurants are being forced to reduce operating hours, reduce food options, and in some cases, close completely. Indian restaurants play a vital role in serving customers. However, due to the lack of enough foreign workers, they were unable to even serve roti canai, especially not to the satisfaction of the customers.
The restaurant sector also played a key role in the country's economy in terms of collecting SST tax. But we never got any priority in the issue of foreign workers. If this situation continues, many restaurants will have to close. This will also affect the country's revenue.
Therefore, the government must find a complete solution to this issue. He requested that the government provide a complete solution to this issue before the 2026 Malaysia Visit Year.
